Bio: Brett is the Deputy Executive Director of the National AI Centre (NAIC) at the Department of Industry, Science and Resources. The NAIC (pronounced “nayk”) is the government’s lead body supporting industry to unlock the economic benefits of AI. NAIC’s goal is to make Australia a global leader in developing and adopting artificial intelligence that is trusted and secure. It does this by: supporting AI adoption for small and medium businesses by addressing barriers and challenges; growing an Australian AI industry; convening the AI ecosystem; and mitigating harms and risks. Prior to the NAIC, Brett’s career includes a decade in scientific research (including a PhD in Neuroscience), along with subsequent work supporting health and medical research. Brett has built and developed cross-functional teams, served as a non-executive director on Boards, and led large-scale strategy development and implementation.
